Animal Husbandry Project

This project's goal is empowerment for families; to provide them with livestock they can use as a source of income, an avenue to begin their own small businesses, as well as a source of healthy nutrition for their family.

Food, housing costs

We aim to provide families, widows, and single women with assistance they need for emergency relief for basic needs such as food and housing. While beautiful, the mountainous terrain (and heavy seasonal rains) in southwest Rwanda leaves many homes - often built out of earth-based materials such as mud bricks - vulnerable to flooding, mudslides, etc. With our donors' support, we are able to assist families facing these challenges to build or repair homes. We have also been able to purchase land for families to build upon or use for agriculture. In economic hardships, we are also able to provide funds for groceries.

Medical needs assistance

Widespread poverty and low-incomes make it extremely difficult to pay for necessary medical care. With our donors' support, we have been able to free families from devastating medical debt. We have been able to not only support families in need of routine or emergency medical care, but have also been able to provide some families who have children with disabilities the individualized care they need, which is even less accessible in southwest Rwanda.

Seka Handbags

Seka handbags, our first project, is a small sewing co-op that provides several women with dignified employment. These women come from a variety of backgrounds; some are single women in need of a way to support themselves, some are widows with many children to care for, some are survivors of domestic violence, or have exited work in the sex industry. All of them are loved by Jesus! These women are hard working, creative, and joyful in every circumstance. Our donors' support provides funds for the materials they need to continue their business.

Tuition assistance

Like other areas we are involved in, education is another cost many families struggle to afford on a low income. Schools charge families for exam fees, uniforms, textbooks, and other materials. Many families are unable to afford these costs for any of their children, or sometimes must choose which child can attend school that year. We believe education is a key factor breaking the cycle of poverty, so this is an area we heavily prioritize. We have not only been able to provide families with the funds they need to send all of their children to primary and secondary school, but we have also sent children to schools for children with disabilities, as well as sending multiple young adults to technical/vocational schools and universities.

Food, housing relief

Rural areas of Kenya are particularly susceptible to food insecurity due to a heavy dependence on subsistence agriculture combined with extreme environmental conditions such as droughts and flooding. Housing can also be affected by flooding, putting already financially vulnerable families in need of emergency funds.

Medical needs assistance

In Kenya, there are many factors attributing to the difficulties many families face in paying for medical care. There is limited insurance coverage, cash-only hospitals, a failing and corrupt government insurance system, and more, all leading to families commonly relying on assistance from friends and family in order to pay their medical bills. With our donors' support, we are able to help some families facing this reality.

Tuition assistance

Although Kenya does have free basic tuition for primary schools, there are many "hidden" additional costs of schooling, which families are responsible for. Many families find themselves unable to pay these fees for some or all of their children, sometimes leaving them with the difficult choice of choosing which child gets to receive an education and which does not.

Stories from kenya

"Kivu Love has been so blessing to me, and my family really appreciate what she does for us.

In terms of school, Kivu Love has been paying for my kids’ school fees. Really thanks Kivu Love for that because it's hard for me at this time as our economy has been very hard. Once, we don't have some food, we also asked for help and [Kivu Love] sent me something to buy food. We are really thankful to God for Kivu Love, always helping us in time of needs."

Samuel B.

"[Kivu Love] has help me and my family especially in school fees my kids could not be where they are today. But through the support that I get from [Kivu Love], they have managed to be in a good school."
